Israel Mosaic Lavi 24
The JFS Israel Residential Scheme on Kibbutz Lavi is a nine-week programme for students in Year 9. The students live on Kibbutz Lavi while attending school and touring Israel. JFS send two groups of 30 students annually: November-January and January-April.
In an effort to enhance the educational programming on offer, JFS have introduced a research and study project in partnership with NLI. The pilot program began in February 2016 and finished mid-March.
Students were invited to select a topic of personal interest from a defined list and, with the assistance of NLI mentors, use primary resources from NLI’s collections to develop a research project.
Students created films outlining their research and sharing their findings. As part of an additional activity, they created posters advertising their topics. This enabled them to utilise and develop state-of-the-art learning skills. They were helped to access primary resources and offered the opportunity, wherever possible, to meet people who gave oral testimony. This project enabled the students to gain a greater understanding into Israeli and Jewish history while simultaneously learning important research and presentation skills.
