This is a poster celebrating Haganah Day, 11 Adar 5709 (1950), which shows a Haganah fighter and an Israeli flag. Below the image is a quotation from David Ben-Gurion: “While the danger of war in the world continues and nation lifts up sword against nation, we must ensure peace in our country through the power of Israeli weapons!”
Jewish people have faced everyday security challenges since the days of the Jewish presence in Ottoman Palestine until today. Jewish soldiers have fought to defend Israel and its citizens for more than 100 years, first in HaShomer and Nili, later in the underground defense units Haganah, Etzel (Irgun), and Lechi (the Stern gang), and finally in the Israel Defense Forces.
This is a poster printed by the Haganah announcing the arrival of the ship Exodus 1947 in Israel. The poster states that more than 4,500 men, women, and children are aboard the ship whose arrival in Palestine is being prevented by the British Mandate police.
